The History and Development of Literacy and Bilingual programming at Metz Elementary

Fostering literacy was integral to Metz Elementary, instilling confidence in early readers and writers through bilingual collections in the Metz library, Metz Publishing Co., and the literacy programs at Metz. Inseparable from literacy at Metz is the centrality of bilingualism. Metz staff understood bilingualism to be at the very core of their community. Both Spanish and English speakers felt included, secure, and confident in their abilities, and had the resources they needed to succeed. It was these efforts that made Metz Elementary such a special place. We hope that this exhibit has embodied the dedication and care given to fostering literacy by Metz Staff over the last 50 years.
