Moving Into the Future

A Sanchez mat at the foyer of Metz Elementary. Surrounded by social distancing stickers, the last year of Metz is captured.

Despite the numerous challenges that historically impacted the Metz community, its members stay dedicated to the school's history and legacy. The most recent challenge — the COVID-19 pandemic — has been met with this same energy, especially as the Metz campus combines with Sanchez Elementary.

The Metz campus is closing, but the Metz community will continue to live on through past and current students, teachers, and parents. This archive plays a role in preserving the school's legacy, but the community's impact goes beyond what an online collection can present to its visitors. The history of the school — parent involvement, Grandma Camacho, ballet folklorico, Metz Publishing Company, and the feeling in the school's hallways — will forever be enshrined in the idea of Metz Elementary School.
