Metz students talking about their parents, taken from Metz students' writing in the booklet featuring winning essays on family heritage in Our Ethnic History by the Students of Travis County

"My family is nice. They're nice because my mom makes sure our room is clean. She takes care of us and loves us. She gives us food she buys us things we need. She is a good mother. We love my dad and he loves us because he cares for us. My mom and dad love us and we love them. My mom is from Mexico, my dad is from Mexico too... My mom's name is Francisca, my dad's name is Adolfo. ...My sister's Sweet 15 is on March 22nd, 1997. My mom needed ot buy lots of things for my sister. She had to go to lots of houses like an uncles to pick up money. One time she got back at 10:30pm. She picks up girls for the dresses to get measured and fitted... My mom had to buy the necklace, the ring, the dress, the pin, the pillow, the invitations, the decorations, the balloons, the shoes, the crown, the rosary, the book, and the flowers for the Virgin Mary at church."

-Beatriz Reyes, Metz 4th grader, from the class of Mrs. Ana Presse

"My mom said that when I was a little baby I was so, so cute. When I'm on the Honor Roll or get a certificate, she is so proud of me. When I give my mom a Valentine's Day or Mother's Day card, she always saves them because she loves me. My mom loves me and my mom will always love me. Sometimes on special days I wear pretty clothes and my mom picks them out. I love my mom very much."

-Daniella Ramirez, Metz 4th grader, from the class of Mrs. Ana Presse
