Visual Art
The collection of visual art displayed throughout Metz offered students, staff, and all visitors an insight into the creativity and culture of the school and its students. Metz students created and designed a variety of meaningful artwork that was often featured on the walls and inside the showcases of the school. The importance and value of the visual art projects were evident upon entering the school, and featured below are some of the art projects former students and staff created while at Metz Elementary.
Ceramic Art
The arts education at Metz connected students with their own culture as well as with the wider world. The creation of ceramic artwork was one aspect of the creative exploration students had the opportunity to participate in during art class at Metz. The ceramic making process involved designing, molding, firing, and glazing the clay with precision and detail. The ceramic projects archived here include student-crafted colorful clay hearts, bowls, and animals.
Texas Quilt
The Metz Texas Quilt was made by students with images associated with various aspects of Texas. The quilt squares represent individually important symbols and landmarks of the lone star state. The composition of student drawings was incorporated to create a cohesive display of Metz's connection to Texas history and culture.

Hallway Paintings
The interior of Metz created an atmosphere of youthful energy and creativity that displayed a variety of student paintings on the hallways. Students were encouraged to be young artists as their works of art would make their way to the hallway and be integrated with the school decor. The artworks functioned as decorations as well as displays of important values such as world peace and friendship for Metz students and staff to view while walking through the school. The diversity of the Metz art education was evident in the student paintings that showcased themes of outer space, heritage, and abstract imagery, just to name a few.
