Student and Faculty Accomplishments and Activities in the 1950s
There is a multitude of Newspaper clippings that detail the various accomplishments and activities from students and faculty alike from Metz Elementary. The first article titled “Flowers for the Children” depicts the President of the Violet Crown Garden Club Mrs. Cabaniss giving out plants, seeds, and flowers to Metz elementary children.
The following Newspaper article titled “A tree grows at Metz” details how Buddy Bethel and James Watson of the Friday Mountain campers planted a sycamore tree as their principal and classmates looked on.
Then ensues an article detailing how Carl Goldstein and Edward Fuentes participated in an Apache Victory dance that was a part of a field day activity for Metz 3rd graders.

There is a Newspaper clipping from the Austin American titled “Second Grade in Bloom”. Ronald Moreland and Eloisa Gonzalez are second graders participating in a competitive flower show under the direction of Miss Samylee Michaelson, student-teacher.
Also, there is a Newspaper clipping from the Austin American from Thursday, January 21st, 1954. June Peterson and Danny Camacho are putting finishing touches on “Frosty”, a fake snowman.
As well, there is a Newspaper clipping depicting from left to right Charlotte Ann Heath, Mary Charlene Johnson, Dixie Darlene Peterson, and Virginia Meserole offering toys to needy families.
Then follows a Newspaper clipping of a dentist working on a Metz student as part of a dental clinic designed to care for the needs of Austin boys and girls and is a part of the school’s program of “Promoting Health and Safety”.
