Student Accomplishments and Activities in the 1960s

First Article named "StoryBook Quilt" details a teacher, Ms. Judy Belt,  read a storybook called ‘the Calico Jungle’ to her students with a hand made quilt made by Belt’s grandmother as the backdrop. The students are James Uballe, Mary Lee Jurado, and Connie Martinez

The following Newspaper clipping named “Fete for Miss Dixon” from 1965. Details how Miss Dixon taught for 44 years a variety of subjects to thousands of students in Metz Elementary, excluding arithmetic. Elaborates on her start from the University of Texas and her thesis work there and mentions how she organized the girl scouts for Metz Elementary.

The next Article clipping named “Attitude Determines Program Success” ahs pictured the principal and intermediate supervisor, Donroty Haner and Symmie Gough, and it discusses the new teacher's efficacy and novel equipment for the novel math program.

There are then two photographs with descriptive information:

  • One Photograph dated 1966 depicting teachers and students in class involves a teacher, Helen Black stone; it also has pictured students: Lora Yee Yocum and Willie Moreno Jr.
  • Another Photograph labeled “The Block is Red” depicts students, professor Hemelinda Rodriguez, teaching school children English grammar. 

Then ensues Newspaper clipping titled "Citizenship Award" that as the title states describe the citizenship award awarded for two students; students name are the following: Denis Arredondo and Deborah Hernandez

Another Newspaper article with no Title depicts a second-grade class from Metz touring a construction siteThe construction site was called Nash Phillip-Copus.

Then a Newspaper clipping of an article named “Honesty cost Judy a fortune” dated from 1969 details how a Metz student, Judy Moreno, found $130 on the street and handed it over to the police rather than keep it for herself

The following article  “Optimists honor Elementary Student with Service Award”   details how Judy Moreno won a service ward for her actions of handing over the $130.
