Entrance to the Metz Elementary building

"Welcome... Bienvenidos"

Twenty-eight years after the inauguration of the new Metz Elementary school building, the Metz community continues to celebrate its Hispanic culture and roots. The new building refreshed the socio-political climate in the East Side and, more specifically, the Metz community. However, many traditions, practies, and symbols transcended across the chapters of Metz. As noted in faculty interviews, students were eager to learn about what aspects of the school had changed from "old Metz and new Metz." Rather than discusses great disparities between these two eras, the faculty expressed a sense of continuity.

"Metz siempre ha tenido la fama de invertir mucho dinero en la biblioteca y en los libros de Espanol... [reciente] tuvimos la segunda coleccion mas grande del distrito escrit[a] en Espanol"

- Donald Wayne Boss, the school librarian
